Mentoring for Writers
For more than a decade I have worked with writers at all stages of their writing career, from beginners to established authors. If you are looking for honest, constructive, professional feedback on your work-in-progress, and a supportive ally as you negotiate the world of publishing and build a rewarding writing life, I can help.
I specialise in mentoring fiction writers, especially those looking to complete and publish a first novel. I can work with most genres, but my own publishing background means that I have particular expertise in – and passion for – historical and gothic fiction.
What is mentoring?
Each writer is different and may need more or less focus in certain areas. Here are some of the things that mentoring can help with:
Regular, professional feedback on your work-in-progress
Advice on elements of writing craft
Developing your story
Inspiration and motivation
Tips on creativity and tackling creative blocks
Regular accountability to keep you writing
Insight into publishing markets and trends
Advice on agents/publishers and your submission package
Career guidance and routes to publication
How does it work?
I only work with writers who I believe I can truly help. My aim is to support you in reaching your writing goals. So, while we will always focus on your project, I may also work with you to enable you to establish a productive, sustainable, and enjoyable creative practise that sets you up for a fulfilling writing career. I use a mix of editorial feedback, experience-based advice and client-centred coaching to help you develop as a writer and creative practitioner.
I offer three packages with a range of options from a single meeting to a full 12 months of support. Details are below. If you're interested in a mentoring package, please drop me a line and tell me a little about yourself and your writing project. If we seem like a good fit, we’ll arrange our first session and you’ll be charged the balance of the package you choose. Payment plans can be arranged. I take a limited number of clients and slots do fill up, so it's best to email me and check availability for the package you would prefer.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY
I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Katherine to help knock my novel in progress into shape. She is sharp-eyed and quick to point out my silly errors, but is kindness and encouragement personified. I am a slow writer but she has boosted my flagging confidence to keep going.
